Abstract

This paper aims: (a) to characterize land-grabbing dynamics in and from Argentina before, during, and after the last commodities boom; and (b) to analyze accumulation strategies deployed particularly after that boom by different agribusiness farming firms. The analysis is based on qualitative and quantitative primary data on trans-Latin agribusiness mega-companies from Argentina and on the biggest farming agribusiness firms operating in a Gran Chaco commodity frontier. Recent changes suggest stronger trends towards intensification on the scales of capital involved in farming than on expanding the scales of controlled land.
