Abstract

The reviewed work is part of a collection that investigates and reconstructs the relationship between the State, politics and social actors in the Pampas agriculture throughout the 20th century. The chronological organization of the collection and the preeminence of political criteria in temporal delimitations assigned the study of the period between 1930 and 1943 to the first volume. The years that followed until 1955 were addressed by the following volume. The temporary cut of the third volume covers the period 1955-1976, a period in which dictatorial regimes and restricted democracy alternated, ending with an unstable constitutional government. In it, cyclical crises of the balance of payments took place, oscillations in the gross domestic product, alternation of open market policies with internal ones and the pre-eminence, hybridization and stagnation of developmentalist notions. The complexity of the period is approached in an introductory way in the Presentation of the volume, offering a valuable and original look, necessary to situate the political and economic changes on which the following chapters deal. In this collective work, these general economic and political phenomena are related to the permanence and continuities that occurred in the agrarian, interventionist and welfare policies of the previous period in the Pampas agriculture.
