Abstract

This article aims to clarify the main trends of scientific research on droughts, focusing on Argentina as the case study. It seeks to identify key trends in these publications related to interdisciplinary collaboration, knowledge sharing, methodological strategies, and drought concepts. To achieve this, a collection of 319 scientific articles is analyzed, all focused on drought as a crucial factor in empirical research on Argentina and published between 2020 and 2025. The methodological approach combines bibliometric analysis, lexical analysis, and conceptual classification of publications, using both automated tools and full-text reading. Data sources include the institutional repository of the National Council for Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET) and the bibliometric database OpenAlex. The findings reveal that the drought phenomenon is a significant topic in recent Argentine scientific work and is studied from multiple disciplinary perspectives, often with substantial interdisciplinary collaboration. Most publications are in agronomic and biotechnological fields, which tend to involve more intense collaboration and productivity, with a focus on both agricultural innovation and biodiversity conservation. Studies on hydrological and meteorological droughts form the second most common thematic area. Finally, fewer publications address the social aspects of drought, although these also demonstrate openness to interdisciplinary cooperation.
