In this paper, I analyze logics and social relations that mediate the management of natural assets linked to Guanacache open field livestock breeding, an area that extends over the plain located at east of the Andes Mountains in Cuyo region (argentinean central-western). The analysis focuses on the pastoral practices of the inhabitants of the north east of Mendoza, and sheds light on the presence of local criteria for livestock management based on a reciprocal logic and on a weave of socioambiental knowledge link to grazing fields. Thus, it is put into debate a common idea present in various environmental sciences local studies: the lack of rationality, inappropriate nature and random in pastoral practices development.Published
