Abstract

In this work we analyze and conceptualize agrarian change in Uruguay between 2000 and 2011, linking it to generational change and household life cycle. The results obtained, based on a cohort analysis carried out for different agrarian social types, allowed us to identify multiple processes: land grabbing by capital centralization, land grabbing by dispossession, smallholder land grabs and concentration of land by decomposition of family production. In this way, the paper provides an insight into the multiplicity of dimensions and levels of the land grabbing phenomenon that complements other studies more focused on the role played by large companies.
