Abstract

With the imminence of the depletion of natural resources, the reuse of waste in rural areas is an alternative to minimize the environmental impacts of productive activities, as well as reducing production costs. Improper waste disposal can contaminate water and soil, and the treatment of organic waste by biodigesters, producing biogas and biofertilizer, is a sustainable alternative. This study aimed to profile the potential of waste reuse for biogas production in the state of São Paulo. Theoretical parameters of energy conversion and data from official sources were considered. The canonical correlation was used to evaluate the association between biogas production potential, gross production value and rural area. The greatest potential for biogas generation was observed in municipalities of the western region of the state.
