This research aimed to reflect on the occupation of the pampa in the southern border, between Jaguarão/BR and Rio Branco/UY, with a focus on the introduction of horses, cattle and the work of the peon. The methodology used was a qualitative research with semi-structured interviews with four cowboys/women from this border. It is understood that the handicraft in raw leather, called guasqueria, arises from the connection of the rural man (cowboy), with the horse and his work in the countryside (cattle). This is one of the ways this subject always keeps his country man memories, even though he no longer practices the work as a cowboy, through the practice of the guasqueria craft, he can transmit his know-how and be always connected to the rural space.
