Abstract

The concept of the feminization of the countryside is addressed, which has been used to highlight the processes experienced by women living in rural areas, in order to understand gender inequalities in Mexico and Chile. A descriptive statistical analysis was therefore carried out using population variables, labour participation in the agricultural sector and women's contribution to household income. Average education, fertility and average number of children variables were also analyzed in order to break with the universal "woman" and establish differences between rural and urban women. The findings allow us to question the concept of feminization of the countryside, for women living in rural areas in order to make visible their daily practices and challenges.
