The National School Feeding Program (PNAE) in Brazil establishes (Law nº 11.947 / 2009) that at least 30% of the resources transferred by the Union for school meals must be used in the purchase of food directly from family farming. This study analyzed the management of PNAE resources in the municipalities of the Passo Fundo Microregion, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The research was mixed, with collection and analysis of secondary data (2011 to 2017) and interviews with key informants. The region faces challenges in the operationalization of the PNAE, but complies with the law, employing more than 30% of the amount transferred by the Union for school meals directly from family farming. PNAE is promoting family farming and healthy eating for students.Published
