Abstract

Chubut’s drylands have been historically dedicated to sheep wool production. Droughts are cyclic events that affect them, due to the inequality in access to nature and public policies. This article analyses the interpretations and practices of social agents related to sheep cattle raising regarding the last drought (2007-2012). Through interviews to different social agents and secondary sources, it shows that drought was a relevant environmental problem, caught between fatalistic interpretations about its inevitability and irreversibility and proposals and practices regarding the need of adaptability and reformulations of the current productive model.
