Abstract

The historiography that has dealt with the problem of land ownership in Jujuy is not too broad. It recognizes pioneering works for the Puna region, and a classic about the development of sugar mills. Only a few years ago it has gained prominence from the investigations carried out on the processes of confiscation and indigenous communal lands in Puna and Quebrada, and the linking of land grants and the development of mills in the Eastern Valleys. Within that framework, the Central Valleys of the province have remained practically unexplored, especially in the second half of the 19th century. To this historiographic vacuum this article intends to contribute.
